The Neversink Valley Museum of History & Innovation presents its fifth installment of its History Lecture Series on Wednesday August 5, 2015 at 7:30 pm when it presents Chester Town Historian Clif Patrick speaking about “Traces of the Past” to be held at the D&H Canal Visitor’s Center, 58 Hoag Road (just off of Route 209) in Cuddebackville, NY.  Light refreshments will be served. $5.00 suggested donation

Orange County has long been renowned for its natural beauty and productive bounty, making it a wonderful place to live.  What makes it so beautiful? Family-owned dairies, orchards and produce farms.  Tree-covered hills and valleys afire with color in autumn. Roads leading to picturesque villages, towns and cities.  Tucked among all those places are hints of what once was: a trace of a foundation, a lone smokestack hidden among trees, an abandoned building, the outline of a racetrack visible only from above, and stone walls framing long-overgrown fields.

Join us as Clif Patrick, Town of Chester Historian, explores some of the well-known history that surrounds us, including railroads, cream cheese, and of course, the progenitor of the modern trotting and pacing horses: world famous Hamiltonian. We’ll also look a bit closer and find evidence of blast furnaces, trilobites, kilns, an astronomical observatory, mastodons, mines, early settlers and the people came before them, among other things.
